Remember the Ravelympics? Where we crocheters & knitte
rs challenged ourselves by starting a project during the Olympic Opening Ceremonies and (hopefully) cast off during the Closing Ceremonies. Well now we are about to spin our way through the Tour de France. No we aren't going to ride bikes through France. We're going to spin fiber into yarn in Ravelry's Tour de Fleece!!
The object is to spin fiber everyday they ride, rest when they rest. We even have a Yellow Leader Shirt!
Yes, spin fiber into yarn. Yes, I know I can buy yarn already spun up but this is fun! Come on it's an adventure! Alas I won't be using a spinning wheel. Nope I'm going to use a drop spindle Handmade especially for me by the amazingly talented SpinSanity. Why? Well mostly because I don't have a wheel.

Plus you haven't felt these fibers!
I bought these over a year ago at the Southeastern Animal Fiber Fest (SAFF)
and these from The Knit Witch ...she also has cool yarn bowls:)
These two Briar Rose Fibers fibers are going to look amazing plied together! (Chris also has amazing hand painted yarns!)
But these!….these I just want to get naked and roll in them can't wait to start spinning these. These are rovings from the amazing Wonder Why Alpaca Farm! Alpaca is soooo soft and warmmmm.
In total I have 27 ounces of roving. Being a novice spinner plus spinning on drop spindle I have no idea how much of this I can spin during the race or how much yarn I will get out of it. I'll keep you all apprised of my progress.

I felt some of these and they are so soft and will make lovely yarn and I can’t begin to imagine all the wonderful projects you will make! I saw you spin – and girl, you’re good – you’ll get the yellow leader shirt!! Tour de Fleece – love it! Watch out for Black Bart – wouldn’t he just love to get his kitten claws in those goodies!!! ;)
Phew, I’m not the only one that wants to get naked and roll in alpaca fiber.
I love your special spindle and am looking forward to spinning with you. Go Team of Wonder!
All of your fiber is GORGEOUS! You are doing an amazing job on your SpinSanity Spindle and it looks like you have tons of beautiful roving to work with.
I think you should crochet or knit up a blanket out of the Wonder Roving so you can roll around on it :-)
Way to go! Your spindle is really cute, and I’m excited to see the results of all this spinning you’re going to be doing soon!
Jess
Fabulous fiber! That Spin Sanity spindle is wonderful. Thanks for your advice. I’m going to be checking her out on Etsy.
You are amazing! The roving looks fabulous. Can’t wait to see the finished product.
Have you tried spinning gold out of hay yet?
I’m spinning Romeo right now too! He spins beautifully – and the Wonder Why Gal’s fibers are addictive!
I love your Fat Cat spindle. And Andrea’s Rum/Brown is amazing, I really want to get some but don’t need another hobby…despite the ZPDK’s efforts to lure me, LOL
I’m so excited that you are on the Team of Wonder! I love doing this kind of crazy togetherness fun!!
It makes me so happy you are a spinner now!
